At the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday morning, President Obama spoke of his reliance upon prayer to Jesus as the leader of the nation:
"I’d be remiss if I stopped there; if my values were limited to personal moments of prayer or private conversations with pastors or friends. So instead, I must try — imperfectly, but I must try — to make sure those values motivate me as one leader of this great nation."
He then went on to speak about how he has been blessed and must adhere to the teachings of Jesus who said, "To whom much is given, must is required..." (Luke 12:48)
As I read those words spoken by the President, a man who claims to be a Christian, I couldn't help but wonder why He chooses to adhere to those words of Christ, but not other words spoken by God in His word:
Proverbs 6:16 "There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood..."
Since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, it is estimated that 50 million innocent lives have been killed as a result of women's right to privacy. These innocent unborn children were killed by scalpel, saline solution, or shredded into pieces by a suction device.
As a Christian President, you would think Obama would be the first to decry this practice as ungodly, inhumane, and evil. But instead, he signed the most pro-abortion legislation this nation has known when he became President. This legislation allows federal funds to pay for abortions. And he did this behind closed doors.
Actions speak louder than words, Mr. President.
If he truly spends time on his knees before the holy God of the Bible, then how can he possibly sign such legislation putting a woman ahead of the innocent, unborn children who have no voice...no representative... who cannot speak for themselves...who are the least of all of us.
Yes, we as Christians have been blessed with much. We have salvation. Therefore, much is required of us to do the right thing even when it is unpopular.
That is the lesson we have from Christ who shed His innocent blood that we might have life. Those of us who claim to follow His teachings, who claim to wear the cloak of Christ, who claim His identity have the responsibility to protect the innocent.
It's time to speak up, Mr. President, and do the right thing. Stop the killing in the name of Jesus. If you truly are a praying man, if you truly are a Christian who yearns to abide by the teachings of Christ, then it is time for your actions to match your words.
It is time for you to speak up for the least of these....
Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.""
Blessings,
Ruth
